Ras - 'Totally Legit' Forgelegger Empty
PostSubject: Ras - 'Totally Legit' Forgelegger   Ras - 'Totally Legit' Forgelegger EmptySat Jan 28, 2012 5:07 am

Name: Erasmo ‘Ras’ Bovaine

Background: How Erasmo went from being a very young SINless orphan of dubious parents to a ward of the state and then under a special pilot program awarded a SIN and allowed to be raised by a local community can only be attributed to luck. Erasmo was adopted and raised by the NSAU, a network of independent artists, craftsmen and intellectuals; sometimes jokingly referred to as the ‘Bohemian polyclub.’ Erasmo was told his father was “no good” and his mother was a shaman, much respected, but too often walking a dangerous path. He flourished in the community but as he got older he began to chafe under the conservative, lie-low and choose-your-battles attitudes of the NSAU. To the horror of his friends and adopted families, he enlisted in the army and was soon sent off the South America. Once again his luck came through. Before hitting the jungles he was transferred to what at first seemed a soul crushingly boring position in the Army Contracting Command, however, he soon discovered that life in the ACC was posh with a capital P and corrupt with a capital C. The ACC acts as the overseers for corporate contracts and mercenaries. Running rackets and skimming off the top and taking the corporate dime was seen as the natural course by both ACC enlisted and officers. The ACC got all the best stuff, Esrasmo even “volunteer” to be a “test subject” for some of the latest and greatest bioware (that is to say he snagged some of the good stuff!) Erasmo’s job in the ACC was to run a large desktop forge, ostensibly to provide rapid parts in case of unexpected shortfalls but in practice he made knock offs of items his superiors were buying from various mega-corps. The knock-offs were then swapped for the real items which were then sold on the black market. Unfortunately the ACC came under the eye of rare incorruptible auditor. In the end, Erasmo agreed to take the fall for his buddies but once again as luck would have it a freak accident destroyed the server where all the evidence was being held. No charges could be laid against Erasmo but to smooth out any political blowback he was suspended and then three months later given an early honorable discharge. Once he was back in Seattle he decided to set up shop with his own desktop forge, he even decided to go legit… for a little while. The corporate control over feedstock made legit business nearly impossible and he soon found himself in serious debt to some bad people. Once he started making his own feedstock and producing knock-offs things started turning around. They also started getting complicated… Now Erasmo is running a small moonshine desktop forge operation out of his warehouse loft in Everett. Relationships with his buddies in the ACC are good but have to be kept on the down low. Relationships with his friends and family in the NSAU are a bit shaky; nobody really minds forge-legging in theory, since it is a victimless crime (unless you care about the megacorps… yah, right!), but the increasing amount of entanglement with the criminal element are making some shy away. Erasmo has taken on a 15 year old Amerindian kid, an orphan, named Kit Saka’am to be his apprentice.

Game Log

1/31/12 - “I think we’re working for the Irish Mafia so you know it’s all legit.” – Tamasine

A KE cop showed up to inspect Erasmo’s workshop on false claims of noise complaints. Erasmo couldn’t bribe him off so he locked the front door and ran. The cop chased but was intercepted by some Irish Mafia enforcers. Erasmo called on Tito and Naxos to help him move his forge and feedstock. Naxos let Erasmo and Kit move in with her for a couple days until things calmed down. Erasmo and Naxos went to O’Flanagan’s and they found out from Michael that the cop was moonlighting for the Yaks. Michael assured the boys would provide protection to Erasmo from the Yaks but asked for a favor in return. The Boss’s daughter wanted the latest Zoé line and Michael said that it would be great if Erasmo could come up with some Zoe product for the daughter and to sell. He said that his financial problems would be over ‘for a while.’ Erasmo, Naxos and Tamasine went to the Zoe shop in the mall (Tamasine posing as a rich Japanese business man, Naxos as a bodyguard and Erasmo as a minder) where they learned about a fashion show in Paris in two weeks where the latest designs will be shown. They also hinted that some fashion designers from Vashion Island might be able to knock them off.

At Erasmo’s request Tamasine convinced KK Zoom to find a likely candidate for ¥1250 (once the money comes in) and he found Alice Long. Alice often visited some local clubs so the group scouted them out so they could fit in on the weekend and “bump into” Alice on the weekend when she usually clubbed there. In the meantime Erasmo had Tamasine contact KK Zoom again and start working on forged passes to the Paris fashion show.

2/13/12 “We are what we say we are, we’re legit, we’re just trying to bootleg Zoe clothes” - Ras

Ras and Naxos scope out the club where Alice hangs out and then go shopping so they can fit in. The next day Ras and Kit move back to their place and Ras makes some call to his buddies in the military to arrange air travel to and from the Paris show for the group. That night and the following night Ras, Naxos and Bound, hang out at the club looking for Alice and they end up attracting the attention of a drug dealer named Jimmy. Jimmy thinks the group is muscling in on his territory but after an awkward interview where Ras willfully misconstrues Jimmy’s occupation as being a male pimp rather than a pusher they part company. Later they see Alice come into the club with her friends. Ras brags to his friends to “watch this” as he heads out to put some moves on Alice, (despite throwing a lot of edge) Ras barely manages not to make a complete fool of himself but still manages to catch Alice’s attention. After a few drinks and some leading questions Ras invites Alice to meet his friends and they explain their plan to knock off the new Zoe line that will debut in Paris. Alice seems uncertain at first, and attempts to convince her by Bounds don’t seem to help (though Tamasine as Bound is determined to help her ‘make it’ if she helps the group.) Once Ras tells her she will get a full share of the profits and that he is expecting to bring in something on the order of ¥200,000 she becomes more interested but she’s cautious and won’t agree until she has had time to talk to a friend who “knows” about shadowy things. As she’s leaving Ras tries a line that sounds like it’s from one of the chick flicks he knows Alice likes, “I can’t do this without you, I need you. I’m taking a big risk by telling you all this, Alice, I’m trusting you,” but after he says it he realizes it’s true.

Alice calls the next day and wants Ras to meet her friend at the club. He goes down with Naxos and Bound and they’re a little surprised to discover the friend is Jimmy. Ras tells Alice he and Jimmy go way back (but doesn’t mention they go way back to the previous day.) Fortunately Jimmy seems to be a genuine friend to Alice, or at least genuinely concerned for her safety as one of his customers. Jimmy tells Alice it’s OK and he tells Ras he’ll be keeping an eye on him. Ras warns Jimmy that he’s not the only one hoping to head off any possible trouble between the Irish Mob, Jimmy’s Boys and the Yakuza.

Alice tells the group that they can’t go to the show looking like they are now. Alice tells them what sort of clothes they need and then suggests that they might wear some of her designs. Since everyone is low on cred they gladly agree. Ras invites Alice over to his place so they can use the forge to produce the clothes as a sort of trial run.

In the meantime, unbeknownst to the group Tamasine makes a deal with KKZoom. KK will provide contact info on one of the Zoe big wigs in exchange for “neutralizing” one of KK’s enemie’s computer ability for a weekend. Tamasine materializes as a horrible monster and demands the target’s commlink (the target turns out to be a kid.) Tamasine continues to terrorize the kid over the weekend to insure he does not go online. KK happily provides Tamasine with the information and Tamasine visits the big wig and implants a false memory that he has heard of Alice and wants to see her designs.

2/21/12 - “Don’t worry, he’s the head of security but I think he wants to do some legitimate business” -Ras

Bound and Ras spend the next day scrounging up a low grade French linguasoft program and Bound gets KKZoom to crack it and make copies for everyone. Alice comes over the next two evenings to turn out clothes with Ras and Kit for everyone to wear on the trip. The flight to Paris on a UCAS Army transport is uneventful and though Alice is a bit dismayed when she learns they will be staying at a coffin hotel by the airport the group makes due and enjoys a day of pedestrian sightseeing in Paris. They are able to get into the fashion show without a problem but during the show Bound notices some security guys watching him and Ras. After a brief psychic discussion they agree to play things cools and see what happens. The med approach Ras during the show but, using his best fashion guru voice dismisses them, telling them that they are interrupting the show. Bound sees that they are perturbed but it seems like disrupting the show is something they aren’t willing to do. After the show Bound sends Naxos and Alice away fast while Ras talks to the men. They lead him to the dressing area in the back of the warehouse where he meets Pierre, the head of security for the show. Pierre informs Ras that he knows everyone at the show but he doesn’t know Ras so something is clearly up. Pierre and him men are even more surprised when Bound comes out from an area that was supposed to be secure. After some hemming and hawing they come to an agreement that Pierre will let Ras knock of the designs as long as he keeps the number of counterfeits down to about 300. In return Ras agrees to give Pierre 10% of the profits. Since Ras cannot pay anything up front they agree to meet after the show to discuss a mutually agreeable arrangement. Ras even asks Pierre to bring dinner, which he does.

At the meet Pierre and his men are once again surprised when Bound appears from a closet but they keep their cool. Pierre proposes that if Ras helps him send a message to some local gangers that will satisfy him as a good will gesture towards future payment of the 10%. Bound and Ras ask for details and Pierre wants them to rough up 4 local gangers who have been making him and his men look bad. Pierre give Ras and Bound the details and they agree to take care of the problem.

2/28/12 - Things Start to Make Since… And Then They Don’t

After the meeting with Pierre and his men, Ras and Bound return the coffin motel by the airport to meet up with Naxos and Alice. They discuss the situation and agree that the best way to handle the situation is for Bound to go in by himself and rough up the gangers while the rest of the team waits far enough away not to be linked to Bound but close enough to come in case he needs help. Bounds goes to scout out the location Piere gave him and discovers the four gangers are actually one mage, to men with a lot of cyberware and a third with less cyberware. Once again they debate what to do. Ras wants to prove himself to Piere, he doesn’t think he can afford to have Piere turn against him but he can’t quite figure out how to confront these four without things getting out of hand.

While they are discussing things Ras gets a text message from an anonymous source asking for a meet at a virtual bar. Ras agrees to the meet but his contact remains anonymous using a generic avatar. After some awkward negotiation it appears that the contact knows Pierre wants Ras to attack the ‘gangers’ and because he does not like Pierre is willing to provide Ras with some information. He turns over a virtual dossier indicating that the ‘gangers’ are actually an up-and-coming shadowrun team known as The Sword of Odin. Grateful, Ras offers to pay for the info but the contact wants more, he wants to be a partner in Ras’s operation. Ras agrees if the contact will identify himself, fully support the team and agree to do what Ras thinks is best even if it means working with Pierre instead of against him. The contact has to think about this and says he will get back with Ras.

In the meantime Bound goes to see KKZoom and asks for some additional hacking to try to find out more about Pierre and Ras’s mysterious contact. Oddly, KKZoom tells Bound the Pierre has hired him to track down this same contact. KK also provides Bound with video evidence of Pierre talking to the Shadowrunners and telling them that “they’re on to me, I told them to come here and I’ll give you 10000 newyen to kill them.” Bound has KK forward the info onto Ras who is now very confused. About this time Ras gets another message from the mystery contact requesting “help” and a meet at a seedy bar not far from their hotel. Ras agrees and Naxos and Alice goes with him to the bar. They walk through the door and Ras is just beginning to wory about how he will find the contact when he gets another message from KKZoom with the contacts exact satellite coordinates; a booth at the side of the bar. Ras, Naxos and Allcie go sit down in the booth and the scruffy black dwarf setting there looks quite surprised.

The dwarf identifies himself and Firing Pin and asks to speak to Ras by himself. Ras assures him that the other two are part of the deal but Naxos and Alice agree to move to the next booth. The Dwarf gives Ras another dossier that includes the same video clip KK sent and some additional financial documents that are clear proof that Pierre has embezzled three million newyen from Zoe over the last nine months. Ras begins to breathe a little easier as things start to make since to him. He believes that Pierre thinks Ras and Bound are investigators from Zoe who are on his trail. About this time Bound shows up and begins giving Firing Pin the 3rd degree. Firing Pin, a bit cowed, seems to agree to help the group. Ras begins to try to piece things together. The question that crops up is why send Ras and Bound to be killed by the Shadowrun team. It would get rid of them and should keep Pierre’s hands clean but it could only buy him a little time since the suspicious death of Zoe investigators would trigger a new investigation sooner rather than later. Given this Ras decides that Pierre is probably getting ready to take his money and run. A little upset about the loss of a potential future business contact Ras realizes that if Pierre knows he has the accounting documents it will insure that Pierre doesn’t blow the lid on Ras’s counterfeit operation. He explains all this to the group and suggests that they should go see Pierre (they have his address from both KKZoom and Firing Pin).

Bound is concerned that Pierre could be dangerous so he suggests he should go talk to him. Since they have no evidence of Pierre being magically active this seems like a good idea to everyone. When bound arrives Pierre is frantically packing his things. Wanting to make a firm impression Bound steps out of Pierre’s hallway, shocking him but only temporarily. Before he can fully regain his wits Bound kicks him to the floor and angrily accuses him of plotting to kill his friends and telling Pierre about the video. Pierre, very frightened, begs Bound not to hurt him and denies every telling the Shadowrunners to kill the group. Bound uses a detect truth spell but is a little unsure of the results because Pierre repeatedly asks Bound what he wants him to say and when it seems clear that Bound strongly believes Pierre hired the runners Pierre says that he did, however Bound’s spell indicates that he is lying when he says this. Suddenly the house alarm system goes off and Pierre tells Bound “They’re here, we’ve got to get out of here. Please!!” Bound grabs Pierre and throws him out a back window and then grabs him and flies down a sidestreet. He dumps Pierre at the side of the road and warns him against doing anything against his friends.

When Bound returns and starts to retell what happened, at first Ras seems please because Pierre’s rapid packing fit with what he was thinking but then the news that Pierre may not have hired the Shadowrunner causes everyone to be confused and they also wonder who might have been trying to break into Pierre’s house, Bound found nobody when he went back to scout.

3/5/12 – Confusion and French Resolution?

Ras, Bound, Alice and Firing Pin discuss events and compare notes. They remain somewhat confused but two questions begin to emerge: 1) did Pierre really hire The Sword of Odin to kill the group or did someone plant that video? 2) was it a coincidence that KKZoom was hired by Pierre? Bound spoke with KKZoom again and he said he never worked for Pierre before. It seems that it had to either be a coincidence or there had to be someone unknown to the group who has too much knowledge. Lacking any additional evidence Ras assumes it was a coincidence. Firing Pin still had a backdoor to the camera feed at the safe house where the Sword of Odin was waiting for them. The group had audio and video feed. As they discussed plans for trying to find out from SoO if Pierre hired them they heard them saying “we’ll give it 10 more minutes.” Fearing that they may lose them Bound decides to go in. He casts some spells to make it look like he has Pierre prisoner and walks into the front door of the Safe House. Bound is powerful enough to fool their mage into believing his spell and also manages not to be called out by their hacker. Though it very nearly turns into a shootout, Bound manages to talk things over with SoO but they play things very close to their chest. Bound, and the rest of the group via Firing Pin’s camera get the impression that Pierre did hire them but nothing concrete is said. Bound does seem to come to an agreement that SoO should not mess with him and his friends. After Bound leaves the group sees SoO bug out and destroy the safe house. A few hours later they all head back to Seattle via military flight arranged by Ras.

3/13 /12 – Production

Alice works on the Zoé designs on the trip back to Seattle and upon returning Ras, Alice and Kit work out the first few prototype garments. Once they have good product Ras and Kit synthesizes the feedstock and go into production. It takes about four days to produce 300 Zoé garments from the new fashion line.

Some of the first garments produced are for the daughter of the Irish Maphia don. Ras works with Michael to deliver them to the Don and he is so happy that he forgives ¥30,000 of Ras’s debt.

3/19/20 – Local Sales

The group meets to discuss sales of the garments. It’s decided that they will sell about 60 garments in Seattle to create some working money and the remaining garments will be sold in two other major cities, possibly Portland and Sand Diego or Denver and New York. For local sales, Firing Pin comes up with a lead to get the team into a major black market in the Orc Underground. He leads Ras and Naxos through a entrance in a downtown Seattle parking structure and coolly soothes things over with the two orcs guarding the entrance. Once inside Naxos spots a vendor selling high end clothes and the team enters negotiations with him. His name is Derik and they soon make arrangements to sell him 30 garments at a price of ¥1,250 each.

The team manages to sell the rest of the 60 garments that they wanted to sell in Seattle while finalizing their road trip plans.

Expenses:
¥5000 feedstock – Pay to Ras
¥1250 hacking services – Pay to KKZoom
¥1250 bonus -- Pay to KKZoom
¥500 linguasoft – Pay to Ras
¥500 linguasoft – Pay to Bound
¥3750 three dresses for Don’s daughter – Ras Pays back to pot

Income:
60 * ¥1250 = ¥75000
¥75000 – 5000 – 1250 -1250 -500 -500 +3750 = ¥70,250

Payout:
¥70,250 / 5 = ¥14,050

Naxos ¥14,050
Alice ¥14,050
Firing Pin ¥14,050
Ras ¥14,050 + ¥5000 + ¥500 – ¥3750 = ¥15,800
Bound ¥14,550

I decided to just post the whole character sheet. The concept has evolved some more but is still basically the same. The Synaptic Booster 3 is a bit ridiculous, I know, but after thinking about the implications of hanging with a free spirit I decided I needed to amp my character up a bit. Let me know what you guys think, if need be I can still make some changes.

Also I wasn't sure how we were going to do the extra points for contacts from Charisma. Actually I'm not even sure if we should. I don't think you get free knowledge skill points like you do in the build points system.

This character currently isn't that dangerous (I mean other than the fact that you have 4 passes and 8 edge) But he has one of the highest potentials for growth I've ever seen. Bravo Very Happy So how do you think that my Spirit would know him? The funny thing mentioning the orphan kid, I was thinking of using an orphan as one of my npc "Friends." I actualy haven't fleshed out the NPCs that i would need yet.

A high potential for growth is one of the things I was going for!

It would be OK with me if you had Kit as one of the npc Friends for the pact. I still hadn't quite settled on how Erasmo ended up taking Kit on. I was thinking that one of the NSAU members might have convinced him but maybe instead of that Tamasine might have brought them together?

ok, I'm gonna start with Kit then and write up a story of how i forged a pack with him and ultimately dropped him off at your door step. I'm going to adjust some dates and say that I went free 5 years ago to adjust for the events of this story.
