Fire Arms in close quarters Empty
PostSubject: Fire Arms in close quarters   Fire Arms in close quarters EmptyWed Aug 29, 2012 5:27 am

In research done on using fire arms in close quarters. shows that there is an issue with trying to use a longarm such as a battle/hunting rifle, sniper rifle, hmg, or even an assault rifle in a confined area. They are long and akward and have been abandoned by SWAT and the military for shorter more compact weaponry (The military still uses ARs for infintry however the M4 Carbine has become the predomonant AR for the military.) Now that being said SR has no system in place to adjust for close quarters combat with fire arms.

I propose that we place an inititive adjustment in the first round of combat in close quarters to reflect the akwardness of using such a large weapon. The magnitude will ofcourse reflect what style of gun you are weilding.

Pistol: -0
SMG: -1
Short Barrel Shotgun: -1
Long Barrel Shotgun: -2
AR: -2
Hunting/battle Rifle: -3
Sniper Rifle: - 3-6 (This might depend largly on the sniper rifle. I think some of them are the size of the hunting rifles.)
Heavy Weapons: -6
Bullpup config: +1

So lets take an average US solder in the year 2012. Hell lets say he's bad ass and give him 4 Reaction and 4 intuition, with an inititive of 8, due to his amazing training and conditioning. Now have him turn the corner holding a sniper rifle and find himself face to face against an untrained conscript with an AK-47U (SMG version with a shorter barrel) Conscript's stats are 3/3, with inititive of 6. So the Soldier's modified inititive is 4, and the conscript's modified inititive is 5. The soldier is at a disadvantage due to his poor weapon choice. now if he had the M4 Carbine out, an SMG acording to gun havens, his inititive would be 7.

This makes it reasonable for a normal man to prefer an SMG to an AR. Hell if facing off against an equal foe it would make Slide or Ninja Jeff consider taking a smaller weapon.

That being said I also think that in an ambush/suprise round the ambusher should not suffer this penalty.
